Orford substation, T3 transformer – 47MVA 120kV

In December 2022, a major outage occurred on the Hydro-Sherbrooke network, causing the failure of two power transformers at Orford substation. Of the two transformers, one was purchased on an emergency basis from Hydro-Québec, and the second was sent to a specialist company for refurbishment.

The 52-ton transformer, also known as T3, was back at home on March 7. After delivery by specialized transport, assembly and electrical testing, Hydro-Sherbrooke teams were busy connecting the control and protection wiring as well as the 120 kV and 25 kV power cables. ⚡ 🔌

Returning the transformer to Orford substation will allow us to return to an optimal configuration. This will ensure greater reliability and continuity of service for Hydro-Sherbrooke customers.
